having trouble with google audio verifaction
Hey all you gmailers and pc geeks. Maybe you can help me out here. I'm trying to sign up for a gmail account. However the audio file will not play on my
pc, you know the file that we blinks use to read that stupid type what you see in the picture that says if you use a screen reader click here to listen?
I have sound of course. I have an audio player infact I have two.
I've tried the following:
Windows is up to date with java patches and that crap.
Optimized ie including making sure the multimedia settings were set correctly to display in web pages.
Tried disabling popup blocker firewall including windows firewall and antivirus
When I click on the listen icon jaws says auto update however jaws will not read to me what it wants to auto update even with the jaws cursor, but it shouldn't
be updating anything since everything is up to date b/c I ran windows update.
It also says at the bottom javascript play audio capta. Is there a java setting I need to change?
I've even tried a restart but the darn peace of crap file still will not play.
I can play other audio.
I am using ie6 and windows xp home.
Any ideas? I'm at a loss and really want a gmail account. I have no number so that I can call google about this. Any ideas? Should I just not go with google
if they are going to be like this? Very frustrated! Oh yeah and just for the record you no longer need an invite to sign up. Thanks man.

I noticed the other day that java wanted to update itself. I'll bet that's what's happening.
I think if you will tab around in that dialog there will be a cancel button.
Just my thoughts.

Let me go ahead and warn you that their form of "audio" varification is next to impossible to understand, so in my oppinion I really wouldn't worry over it. I tried to use it one time, and it basicly sounds like one male voice reading in a foreign language, then another reading in English along side that, and they both speak so quickly it was difficult to figure out what was being said.
Programs are out there that can crack the Google audio CAPTCHA implementation something like 60% of the time. Eventually they will get better and Google will have to switch to something--hopefully something a little more usable. I think the same trend will render visual CAPTCHAs useless given time, which is a good thing IMO.
Hello, I have also had problems with google's capcha, but I was able to send their Techs an email and they got back to me. I emailed them back with my settings, and they did the account. I wouldn't navigate away from gmail at the moment, because it's really a good service.
Thanks
